Garage Door Panel Repair & Replacement in Indianapolis

Backed into it, hail took a section, or the bottom panel has rusted through. One panel runs $400–$900 installed — but on a single-car door, two panels cost about what a whole new door does, and we’ll tell you that before you order anything.

Panel Damage Isn't Only Cosmetic

A dent looks like a curb-appeal problem. Underneath it, the panel is a structural part of the door.

The Door Stops Tracking Straight

Panels are what hold the door square. A section that’s bent or creased lets the door flex as it travels, which puts the rollers at an angle in the rail and wears the track on one side.

The Springs Feel a Different Door

Springs are sized to the door’s weight and balance. A crushed section changes how that weight distributes, and the springs end up cycling against a load they weren’t set for.

Insulation Stops Working

On an insulated door, a punctured or crushed section loses its R-value in that spot. On an attached garage sharing a wall with the house, that shows up on the utility bill.

The Door Stops Sealing

A bent bottom section doesn’t seat flat on the floor. That’s a gap for water, road salt, and anything looking for a way in.

Not sure how bad it is? Call (317) 588-0001 and we’ll come look. No charge for that.

One Panel or the Whole Door?

A single panel can sometimes be the right fix, and sometimes the whole door makes more sense — here’s how we decide.

Replace the Panel When...

  • The door is under about ten years old
  • Only one section is damaged
  • The manufacturer and model are still in production
  • The rest of the door — springs, rollers, track — is in good shape
  • The finish hasn’t faded much, so a new panel will still match

Replace the Door When...

  • Two or more sections are damaged
  • The door is past about ten years old and the model is discontinued
  • The panel is available but the color won’t match anymore
  • The door has come off track more than once
  • You’re already looking at springs, cables, or an opener on top of it

The Math, in Indianapolis

One panel installed runs $400–$900. A second panel doesn’t double the price — most of the labor is taking the door apart and putting it back together, and that happens once either way. That puts two panels around $1,000.

On a single-car door, that’s most of what a new one costs installed. On a double it’s closer to half. Which is why the answer depends on your door — and why we do that math with you before anything gets ordered, instead of after.

Indiana Winters

The Bottom Panel Goes First

Aging raised-panel doors before garage door panel repair and replacement in Indianapolis, IN

The most common panel we replace isn’t the one somebody backed into. It’s the bottom section, and nobody hit it — it rusted.

Four months a year the car brings snow and road salt into the garage, and it melts into a shallow pool along the bottom of the door. Steel sections rust from the inside out along the seal line, where you can’t see it happening. Wood-composite bottoms swell, then delaminate. By the time it’s visible from outside, the section is usually past saving.

It’s the same reason cable ends corrode at the bottom brackets and grit collects in the lower track — one puddle, three different failures. If you’re going to check one thing on your door at the end of winter, run a hand along the inside of the bottom section and look for bubbling paint or soft spots.

What We Do on a Panel Call

Most of the work happens before anything gets ordered.

We Identify the Door First

Manufacturer, model, and year off the label inside the end stile. That tells us whether a matching section still exists, and it’s the answer that decides everything after it.

We Check What Else Took the Hit

Whatever damaged the panel usually touched something else — a bent track, a bottom bracket knocked loose, rollers pushed out of line. We look before we quote, not after.

We Check the Color Match

Doors fade a shade or two over the years. On a door past about ten years old we’ll tell you what the new section will look like next to the old ones, and you decide whether that matters.

We Transfer the Hardware

Hinges, rollers, struts, and the bottom bracket move to the new section — or get replaced if they’re worn. Then the door is balance-tested with the opener disconnected before we leave.

Related Repairs

Whatever damaged a panel rarely stopped at the panel.

New Garage Doors

On a single-car door with two or more sections gone, a new door usually costs about the same and looks like one door.

Track Repair

An impact hard enough to crease a panel usually bent the track it was riding in.

Cable Repair

The bottom brackets hold both the panel and the cable ends. A hit down low takes both.

Spring Repair

A door that’s changed weight or balance puts springs through a cycle they weren’t set for.

Roller Replacement

Rollers pushed out of line by an impact don’t sit right in the rail afterward.

Emergency Repair

Door won’t close and the garage won’t secure? Dispatch runs 24/7. Same Price. Day or Night.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most.

How much does garage door panel replacement cost?

$400–$900 for a single section installed, including the panel, the labor, and transferring the hardware from the old section. The range comes down to material and whether the panel is a stock item or has to be ordered. You get the price before anything is ordered, and there’s no service-call fee.

Often yes — on a door under about ten years old, with one damaged section, and a model that’s still in production. Past that it gets complicated: discontinued panels, color that no longer matches, and labor that doesn’t scale down. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in.

One panel is cheaper. Two often isn’t. At around $1,000 for two sections, a new door can be the better buy, especially on a single-car door. We price both before anything is ordered.

On a newer door, usually. UV fades a door a shade or two over time, so on a door past about ten years a new section will read brighter than the ones around it. We’ll tell you what to expect before you commit.

Yes, and it’s the most common panel we replace here. Road salt and snowmelt sit along the bottom of the door all winter and rust the section from the inside out. If the rust is only in the bottom section and the rest of the door is sound, replacing that one section is usually worth it.

The panel itself isn’t the dangerous part — getting to it is. Removing a section means releasing the door’s tension and taking apart hinges that are holding the weight of everything above them. On the bottom section you’re also working next to the cable brackets. It’s not a job that goes well without the right setup.

It happens on doors past about ten years, and it’s usually the point where a new door becomes the answer. Some manufacturers keep sections available longer than others — we identify the model first, before quoting anything, so nobody orders a panel that doesn’t exist.

Residential garage doors from every major brand, in steel, insulated, and wood-composite. What decides it is whether a matching section is still made, and we check that first.
